June 12 – Lewisham Together – Oppose Anne Marie Waters & ‘For Britain’
We ask all anti racists to join us in opposing Anne Marie Waters speaking at the Lewisham East by-election hustings on 12th June in the Salvation Army hall, Catford round the corner from the Islamic Centre. After numerous requests from community groups, the organisers are still planning still to give her and her racist party a platform. Waters set up the ‘For Britain’ party after she was deemed to islamophobic for UKIP. Waters has stated the ‘only evil we have legalised is Islam’. In undercover filming by an ITV programme last year she referred to Muslims as ‘these f***ers’ before going on to say, ‘stop all Muslim immigration now’. She has recently spoken at rallies alongside ex-EDL founder Tommy Robinson and alt right figures such as Milo Yiannopolous. Many of her supporters have a history of racism and links to far right oragnisations. Their presence in Lewisham – a wondefully diverse place to live – is a threat to the our multicultural community. We have a big event planned at the Islamic Centre in the evening on Saturday 9th as For Britain’ want to make the the Lewisham By election a national day of action. This is being built now even more as earlier in the day is a march in support of Tommy Robinson in Whitehall by the DFLA (one of her horrific street fighting allies), which has gained hundreds of thousands of supporters online. We do not need these kind of forces or indeed vile views being given a green light to come to Lewisham. This kind of movement must be stopped. If the hustings is cancelled then we will wait until 7pm and march in solidarity to Lewisham Islamic Centre
