New Neighbours | Shame on EU
4 years ago the EU proudly presented the ‘Turkey deal’. The next 4 years the EU looked the other way, while this got tens of thousands people stuck nearby the border of Greece, mostly on the Greek Islands. 40.000 migrants are staying on these Islands, while the capacity is 6.000. This has caused a lot of stress and misery for the refugees and the locals.
The EU did not only let the refugees down, it let the Greek down, and especially those living and working on the islands. An explosive situation has now emerged: Turkey is now sending refugees to the European borders and let boats leave for the islands, that are already overcrowded. Because of this . And the EU still looks the other way.
We can’t accept this any longer. Action is needed right now. We as EU-citizen must take our moral responsibility. And let our ‘leaders’ know they should keep their promises. One Europa. A humane Europe. A Europe that solves problems instead of ignoring the horrible events taking place at this moment.
During this wake we want to show we stand with the refugees, the citizens of the Greek islands and the volunteers & NGO’s, who have tirelessly been taking care of what the EU has been neglecting all these years.
We ask you to make a statement with us at Domplein, Wednesday March 4th, between 6.30 p.m. and 8 p.m. And to burn a candle for the many victims of this shameless EU-policy.
Sharing will be appreciated, being present even more.
