November 14, Oxford – Oxford Opposes Candace Owens
Candace Owens is an American conservative commentator, formerly of Turning Point USA and now of PragerU, known for her pro-trump activism and attacks on Black Lives Matter. Candace Owens was described by the Christchurch shooter as the one who “influenced [him] above all”. She’s also stated that Hitler “just wanted to make Germany great and have things run well”. She has described Trump as “The saviour of western civilisation”, Black lives matter as “a bunch of whiny toddlers, pretending to be oppressed for attention”, and has declared that “Europe will fall and become a Muslim majority continent by 2050” and “There has never been a Muslim majority country where sharia law was not implemented.” The Oxford Union has repeatedly hosted far-right speakers, including Nick Griffin, Tommy Robinson, Marine Le Pen, Steve Bannon, Marion Marechal Le Pen and Katie Hopkins. We refuse to allow the Oxford Union to use the worldwide rise of fascist and racist movements to raise their own profiles and further their careers by courting controversy and lending respectability to racist and fascist ideologues. Let’s come together again to show a strong and united opposition and send send the message that Owens and her views are not, and will never be, welcome in our city.
