January 25, London – From Brazil to India: Resisting State Violence and the Far-Right
25th January, 2020
Time: 11:30 am
Venue: Brazilian Embassy
On the 26th of January, two of the world’s ‘rising powers’ leaders – Jair Bolsonaro, President of Brazil and Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India will be coming together to participate in India’s 70th Republic Day celebrations. The celebrations provide the perfect cover to situations of unrest, massive protests, territorial dispossession of indigenous communities in both countries. While India has seen large protests at all levels against the discriminatory and Islamophobic Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Brazil and indigenous tribes are mobilising in Brazil against Bolsonaro’s attempts to weaken laws protecting the environment and native lands. In addition, both leaders have either been silent spectators or actively promoted attacks against minorities.
South Asian Students Against Fascism (SASAF), SOAS India Society, The International Solidarity Group (ISG) along with our friends and comrades from Brazil will be holding a short protest outside the Brazilian embassy on the 25th of January. We will together be performing the Chilean Anti-rape song followed by speak outs on India, Brazil, Chile, Iran and Palestine. Join us in solidarity with protestors and activists in Brazil and India!
The action will end at 12.30 pm and we will be heading to Downing Street, for a protest march in solidarity with protestors in India and for International solidarity against fascism ending at the High Commission of India. Stand with the resistance!
