HEUTE! August 9, 20:00 – Berlin in solidarity with Polish Lgbtq+ community !
During yesterday’s demonstration in Warsaw in solidarity with Margot, a detained queer activist from the Stop Bullshit collective, Polish police organized a roundup of LGBTQ+ people and their allies. They violently pulled people out of the crowd, threw them against the pavement, and packed them into their cars. Shocking pictures are circulating all over the media: cops holding helpless demonstrators on the ground with their knees. The arrested people were taken to police stations all over Warsaw, with no information concerning their location. The sum of just one afternoon: 48 people taken in and a 2-month detainment for Margot. Yesterday’s event was an ostentatious attempt to intimidate anyone who knows the meaning of solidarity and is ready to fight for their rights. Yet again, the Polish state has decided to raise its hand to strike the LGBTQ+ community instead of providing them with appropriate support and protection. “Appropriate” as Polish streets, homes, schools and work places are filled with homophobic attitudes and behaviors.
We do not agree. We gather today in front of the Polish Institute in Berlin in order to show our solidarity with Margot and all the people who were brutally arrested during this peaceful protest. We want to say a loud “no” to the creation of a police state in Poland, the homophobic and transphobic hunt of the ruling party and public television, as well as the religious fundamentialists’ provocation. We stand in solidarity with the repressed activists from the Stop Bullshit collective and all the non-heteronormative people who are the targets of this hunt. The actions of the ruling right wing and police embody hatred and aggression, in the face of which we cannot remain silent. An attack against one of us is an attack against us all.
Silence against injustice allows violence. It is our obligation – none of you will ever be alone in this fight! We call for all anti-fascists, feminists and members of unions to spread the information and show solidarity!
Free Margot! Free the detainees!
