People who have already lived here for decades are being labelled as a threat. Young people looking for work are rejected on the basis of their surnames. And it’s claimed that there is no room for people fleeing war, poverty or climate chaos. Muslims and refugees are used to distract from growing socio-economic insecurity and rising prices. The drive behind these developments is parties such as PVV and now Forum voor Democratie. They call for the deportation of Dutch Moroccans or warn against the ‘homeopathic dilution’ of the ‘Dutch people’. Ruling parties join in with this scapegoating. As a result, they avoid taking responsibility for the consequences of their policies of warmongering and breaking down the welfare state. This hardening, and growing intolerance, has significant consequences for among others migrant communities, feminists, the LHBTQI+ community and trade unions. Protests will be organised across the world to mark International Day against Racism on 21 March. In the Netherlands, elections for the municipal councils are taking place. Racists and far-right parties are up for election in many places. Support an inclusive alternative! What can you do? 1. Vote against racism on 21 March and call on families and friends to do the same.
