Nijmegen Stands With Afghans, Don’t Send Them Back!
In recent years, the situation in Afghanistan has worsened. The first nine months of last year only, over 8000 civilians were either killed or wounded because of the violence that occurs on a daily basis in the country. Although Afghanistan, after Syria, is stated to be the most dangerous country on earth, European countries continue to deport Afghan refugees whose asylum claim has been rejected. We, being the EU, are sending people back into a war zone, with no guarantee at all that there will be a safe place for them, somewhere in the country.
The 17th and 18th of February, we’re showing our governments there’s no support for these deportations. Numerous human rights organisations have condemned the deportations, but our governments won’t listen. Recent attacks on civilians (hundreds of civilians have been killed in the first weeks of 2018 already) show that Afghanistan is not a place to live in peace at this moment. We demand our government to protect these people as they should, to give them the shelter they deserve.
The full program for the march in Nijmegen will be announced as soon as possible. For now, please invite as much people as you can! Only by doing that, we create a loud voice against the acts of our government.
