we are organizing an anti-racist block at the housing demo (Mietenwahnsinn) on the 28th of March – are you with us?
We are thankful that the renters movement against the housing situation in Berlin, Germany and other cities in Europe is growing so big and that renters, homeless people and people facing gentrification issues are coming together in a self-organized way. In that aim, we want to address some structural factors that create this difficult situation on the housing market for Migrants and Refugees: (neo)colonial relations of exploitation, threat of deportation, racism and nazi-violence and a political swing to the right in general, unbearable conditions in refugee camps, and the absence of support structures around many of them.
We want to raise awareness on these conditions… and because hostility and repression against Refugees and Migrants are increasing, we also need to increase our ability of organizing solidarity – Soli-Rooms, but also housing where one can live independently, self-organized and with resources to form political action! When housing is organized in a capitalist way and when there’s structural racism and racist practices by landlords, those affected by different axes of discrimination will be affected the most by the lack of housing, poor housing or gentrification.
That’s why we want to organize an anti-racist block at the housing demo and unite as many groups and individuals as possible. It would be great to make a strong statement against racism and for housing for all with different speeches, wagons etc. to represent at the housing demo the diverse perspectives of migrants and people affected by racism.
During the housing action days, we will take part to a stand at Rathaus Neukölln on March 25th from 2 pm where people can come together and exchange on the different fights going on: for more grassroots organization in the city, for the maintenance of the collective bar Syndikat, against the racist police raids in shisha bars and for the right a decent living conditions no matter of one’s origin, language or social class!
We‘ll see each other on March 28th at the antiracist block under the name “Housing without borders”! Bring your banners, signs and write us in advance (e.g. at [email protected]) if you want to hold a speech at the demonstration. We are welcoming speeches in different languages, not only German and English.
