January 31, Brighton – Solidarity on Sea – DEMO against racism and xenophobia
SOLIDARITY ON SEA #NoBorders After 3 and half years of “negotiations”, Brexit is finally happening. Not many of us could give a clear picture of what the coming years will hold, but we know the outlook is gloomy. Today we have a choice to make. We can let our fear and uncertainty spread into every community, keeping us apart from each other and more vulnerable to new austerity measures and human rights abuses. None of us are immune but there are some whose lives become more precarious by the second. Or we can choose to fight – to use our anger carefully, and join together in solidarity with every group affected by Brexit. To support refugees and migrants in the years to come, and resist the “hostile environment” the Tories are creating for them. To show that Brighton is not only a City of Sanctuary by name, but in action. We need to be practical with our kindness and solidarity. This is resistance to a government that left compassion at the door of number 10 way before Brexit. We invite everyone to march with us, and use this moment to make links between groups and individuals in Brighton who will keep the fight alive. Meeting at the train station at 7pm, a short march will lead to the Clock Tower where we will have speeches. And as an alternative to the disgusting crowdfunder to ring out ‘Brexit bells’ in celebration, we will be collecting for the Migrant English Project.
