Oppose The Far-Right in Leeds!
The far-right are coming to Leeds. JOIN US and OPPOSE THEM.
A number of far-right groups are planning a demonstration in Leeds this weekend. In January this year, the same groups marched 100 of their supporters through the city centre, shouting racist and homophobic abuse, waving white nationalist flags, and making Nazi salutes. We believe these groups will keep coming back to our city until they are shown the door.
When the far-right successfully marches, they become confident, and more violent. In Leeds, having had fascist demos facilitated with force by the police, we’ve seen an emboldened far-right carry out arson attacks on a mosque and gurdwara, attack picket-lines when railway workers were striking over passenger safety, beat homeless people, and disrupt left-wing meetings.
In times of economic crisis, fascist movements always rise. With the far-right growing globally, we see the chilling impact of allowing them to organise unopposed, from the horrific massacre in Christchurch, to the killing of Labour MP Jo Cox in Batley.
The far-right blame migrants, religious and ethnic groups, LGBT, women, benefits claimants and organised – different sections of the working class – for high rents, low wages, homelessness and growing poverty. But we are not to blame. They only distract us from uniting and organising against our true enemy, the ruling-class who profit as we struggle to get by.
Momentum Leeds and LAFN are calling for everyone who opposes fascism, racism and the far-right, to come out and oppose these so called “Yellow Vests”. The aim is mass collective action to stop the far right from marching round our city, and growing any further.
One weapon the working-class in all its diversity has always had is solidarity. When we stand together, organised, as one, we can stop the far-right in their tracks!
