Leading Italian far right politician Matteo Salvini, the former deputy prime minister of Italy, has announced his intention to speak in London to a crowd of racists mostly from the Italian diaspora.
Salvini and the Lega blame refugees for the poverty and social problems faced by the Italian working class. The upper class of politicians, bankers and bosses who exploit us for profit are to blame, but Salvini defends them by deflecting people’s anger at our social conditions onto foreign scapegoats who are as fucked over as the rest of us, if not more so. Far from the anti establishment populist he claims to be, Salvini represents the interests of the rich and powerful.
Salvini has links with far right racist and fascist parties across Europe and looks to build these in the UK, while the far right here looks to influence Boris and push the Tories further right. We fight alongside the anti racist and anti fascist community in London who will do what’s in our power to stop this from happening.
Salvini was originally planning to speak in Liverpool as well but the potential opposition from militant antifascists forced him to cancel. We intend to stop Salvini’s from speaking here too – Racist politicians have no place in our city.
